If you have been missing that smooth sound of R&B, then look no further because Donell Jones is here with a brand new track. While many of you may know Jones from his smash hit “Where I Wanna Be”, he has been working hard on some brand new music sure to make you remember why you fell in love with his sound in the first place. With a highly anticipated album set to drop this December, Jones has just released “Karma” (Payback) a song sure to make you rethink about double-crossing the one you love. What I love most about this song is the smooth message behind the track. While one may listen initially and think it is solely focused on revenge, when you take a deeper listen, you realize that it’s shedding the toxicity of a relationship and returning to one’s full self. Who doesn’t need that especially at a time like this? I had the opportunity to speak with Jones about his new song and this is what he had to say about it.
“I just woke up one day and had this record on my mind. It was an old Stylistics record called “Payback is a Dog” and I wanted to pay homage to those guys. I really love their music but I’m gonna flip it and do my own thing to it.”
If this is any indication of the direction the new album is going in then I cannot wait for it!
